Founder’s Day 2016

The Founder’s Day celebrations started with the Parent Teacher Meetings. Parents were happy to come to School and meet the teachers and take feedback about their children.

A Book Fair was organized in the morning. It was inaugurated by Ms. Roshen Dalal, an author, educationist who has been involved in research in the fields of History, Religion, Philosophy and Education. A large number of books were on display, like travelogues, biographies, philosophy, fiction, art, craft, literature, drama, quiz and reference books. She encouraged the students to read a lot as that would lead them to think independently.

The Principal, Mrs Gunmeet Bindra, addressed the parents. She emphasized on the importance of the cooperation of the parents with the School to help the child reach his full potential. She encouraged the parents to respect the School norms to bring about the holistic development of the child.

The Annual Sports Day got under way with Mr. Rupender Singh as the Chief Guest. He is an eminent sports commentator and journalist. The Houses marched in all their glory, with each boy proudly wearing their House colour and the School flag and House flags fluttering in the breeze. Apart from the serious Inter House races, old boys, parents and staff joined in participating in races and other events. The gymnastics and yoga displays were brilliant. The inspiring words of the Chief Guest encouraged the students to work hard and achieve their dreams.

The batch of 1991, celebrated their Silver Jubilee year. It was a nostalgic moment for the old boys. It was a treat to see them marching with the School marching squad. They enjoyed every moment of their presence in the School.

In the evening, a brilliant performance of Peter Pan by the Junior School kept the audience spell bound. The intricate and the multilayered design of the stage and the colourful costumes added to the entire experience.

Exhibitions by various Co- circular Activities were organized on the second day of the Founders’. Mrs.Bhardwaj, inaugurated the exhibitions. There were about 25-30 displays, where the students’ work was displayed. It was a treat to the eyes. It was a fabulous blend of academics, creativity and imagination. The ambience and the lay out was appreciated by everyone. In the evening, the Founders Day speeches’ were held. The Chief Guest for the event was Mr. Muzzaffar Ali who is an Indian filmmaker, fashion designer, poet, artist, music-lover, revivalist and social worker. The ceremony started with the academic procession followed by the Chief Guest and the Principal entering the Activity Centre. The Principal in her address presented the School Report. The achievements of the school during the year spoke volumes about how the School is moving from strength to strength, be it academics, sports or co-circular activities. The Chairman, Mr. Darshan Singh, in his address, thanked the Chief Guest and motivated the boys to contribute to the larger community with whatever they have received during their school life..

The day’s programme concluded with the fabulous theatrical presentation ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ by the Middle and Senior School students .They staged the famous Mid-Summer Night’s Dream.

On the last day of the Founders, a carnival was organized. There were about 16-18 stalls of games and food.It really was a fantastic show and everyone enjoyed.

The Founders’ Day celebrations is not only a time for enjoyment but also a time to remember the founder of the School, Ms Oliphant, whose humble beginnings have taken the School to the position where it stands today. The entire Welham fraternity expresses its gratitude to the founder of the School.
