Military History Seminar

A Military History Seminar was hosted at Welham Boys' School on 6th and 7th of October, 2017.

General Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, ADC (Retd.) was the Chief Guest at the Opening Ceremony.

Along with Mr. Darshan Singh, Chairman of the Board of Governors of the School, the Chief Guest participated in a talk show on 'The Importance of Military History in Schools and Universities', moderated by the erudite military historian, Mr. Shiv Kunal Verma.

Various syndicates researched and made presentations in different formats like 'The Big Fight', on 'Can India and Pakistan be Friends?' moderated by Lt. Gen. K.J. Singh, PVSM, AVSM & BAR, 'We, The People', hosted by none other than Ms. Barkha Dutt, the eminent TV journalist, an address by Hony. Capt. Bana Singh, PVC, who spoke in details of India's Siachen conquest and the naming of Quaid-e-Azam as Bana Top, 'Aap Ki Adalat' on 'Kargil War- Dynamics of Modern Warfare', with Lt. Gen. Mohinder Puri, PVSM, UYSM and Brig. Devinder Singh, VSM in the dock, while Lt. Gen. P.C. Bhardwaj, PVSM, VrC, AVSM, SC, VSM was the esteemed judge, and finally a talk on 'Indo-China Relations' by Cmdr. C. UdayBhaskar who traced the intricacies of this relationship in the most engaging fashion.

The Chief Guest for the Closing Ceremony was Commandant, IMA, Lt. Gen. Sanjay Kumar Jha, AVSM, YSM, SM. He highlighted the core values of character, competence, commitment and compassion in one's life.

Everyone lauded the seminar and emphasized the need for making military history a part of the curriculum in schools across the country.
