Welham Boys' School is affiliated to the CENTRAL BOARD OF SECONDARY EDUCATION (CBSE)
The school offers a wide range of academic choices. The subjects offered are grouped under the following Departments.

The School is structured on these levels-namely Junior School (classes IV-VI), Middle School (classes VII-IX), and the Senior School (classes X-XII).

The curriculum encourages students to develop an understanding of key concepts and ideas. In this way, a sound base is built to equip students with the appropriate attitudes and skills. Concept teaching is the base of the learnings and teaching process in the school.

Projects, activity oriented and content centric teaching is introduced at the Middle School level. Cross curriculum understanding is encouraged through theme-based teaching.

Pupils are encouraged to be independent learners and engage in hands on learning experiences. Research and reference in school is supported by the Research Lab and Learning Resource Centre. The teaching process is facilitated by different Laboratories viz Sciences, English Lab, Maths Centre and Geography Lab.

The students' academic achievement is recognized on the Scholars' Recognition Day (for classes IV –XI) and Graduation Day (for Class XII). Also, the board toppers are honored during Founder’s Day Assembly. The Class X topper receives the Principal’s Award while class topper of class XII receives the Dr. Anil Wilson Award for outstanding performance.

A. SCIENCE STREAM

COMPULSORY SUBJECTS: 1. English Core 2. Physics 3. Chemistry 4. Mathematics/Biology

ANY ONE ELECTIVE out of the following subjects-
5. Computer Science /Physical Education/Fine Arts/Music and Dance/Economics/Hindi Core/Geography

A student may opt for Mathematics along with Biology but will have to attend classes with the Commerce and Humanities Stream.

B. COMMERCE STREAM

COMPULSORY SUBJECTS: 1. English Core 2. Accounts 3. Business Studies 4. Economics

ANY ONE ELECTIVE out of the following subjects-
5. Mathematics/Informatics Practices/Physical Education/Fine Arts/Music and Dance /Geography/Hindi Core

C. HUMANITIES STREAM

COMPULSORY SUBJECT: 1. English Core

ANY FOUR ELECTIVES out of the following
2. History 3. Political Science 4. Psychology 5. Economics 6. Mathematics /Informatics Practices/Physical Education /Fine Arts/Music and Dance /Geography/Hindi Core

The School reserves the right to withdraw a subject if the criteria (the minimum number of students) is not met. The School also reserves the right to exercise its discretion in the matter of choice of subjects.

STREAMS AFTER CLASS X

Students may not automatically be given the choice of their Stream. Other factors such as their aptitude/competence for that Stream will be taken into account.

The academic session starts from April 1 for all classes except class XII for which the session begins from March 1.

The school follows CCE (Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation). Teachers carry out both formative and summative assessments.

WEIGHTAGES FOR ASSESSMENTS (SEMESTER SYSTEM FOR CLASSES IV - X)

First Semester : SA1 (30%) + FA1 (10%) + FA2 (10%) = 50%
Second Semester : SA1 (30%) + FA3 (10%) + FA4 (10%) = 50%
Formative Assessment : FA1 (10%) + FA2 (10%) + FA3 (10%) + FA4 (10%) = 40%
Summative Assessment : SA1 (30%) + SA2 (30%) = 60%


CLASS XI-XII

CLASS XI :

Summative Assessment(SA) [ EOT - May (10%), Mid-Term Assessment September (30%), EOT Assessment - November (20%), Promotion Assessment February (40%) ] = 100%

Class XII :

EOT - May (20%), Mid-Term September (35%), EOT - Nov (45%) = 100%
