19th July, 2012
Dear Parents,
On behalf of the students and staff of the Welham Boys' School, I write to invite you to the School's 75th Founder's Day celebrations. The three-day celebrations will be held from the 30th of November, 2012 to the 2nd of December, 2012 in the school campus.
All of us here, in School, are happy and excited about sharing this very special event in our journey, with you- the parents, who's unwavering support, loyalty and affection have inspired, and will continue to inspire, us in our constant success.
This year, we celebrate our journey- from being one of the foremost preparatory schools of the country to becoming one of the foremost 'full-fledged' public schools of the country. Over the years, our boys have consistently achieved stellar academic results and our sports teams have established a fearsome reputation in most inter-school and national fixtures. Our debate, MUN and quiz teams have won laurels at various competitions in India and abroad. The Learning Differently Centre, our various social outreach programmes and the vibrant co-curricular activity culture have all played a vital role in shaping the School as we know it today. The school's infrastructure has constantly expanded to cater to requirements of this growth. Our dedicated administration and teaching staff have played a crucial and significant role in this journey.
While we celebrate the Founder's Day from the 30th of November, 2012 to the 2nd of December, 2012 (an outline of the Founders Day programme is given overleaf), a host of activities and events are planned all through the year, leading up to Founders Day. The Platinum Jubilee Lecture Series on Education, bringing together various stakeholders- educationists, policy-makers, students, parents and representatives from the social and political sphere was initiated last term. Dr. Pramath Raj Sinha, Founding Dean of the Indian School of Business, Hyderabad delivered the inaugural lecture last term. Mr. Mani Shankar Aiyar, MP and Mr. R Gopalakrishnan, former Director, Tata Sons will be delivering the next two lectures of the series this term.
As part of the School's Platinum Jubilee celebrations, a team of staff and students successfully completed an expedition mounting the Draupadi ka Danda peak (at a height of 18,000 ft.) in June. The School is also organising the All India IPSC Information Technology and ICT Festival in October.
Welham Boys' School will play host to a unique (perhaps the first of its kind) youth conference of school students from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Afghanistan. This 5-day conference, The Mumkin Project, will be held in the third week of October. Apart from all this, music concerts, art exhibitions and festivals will be held at various times during the Platinum Year.
Lord Tennyson, in his inimitable way, said of The Brook- 'that men may come and men may go, but I go on forever.' I think that this is most apt for an institution such as Welham's. For boys have come as boys and left as men, but the School- its ethos, its character, its values and its ideals go on.
I look forward to having your dear ones and you over at Welham Boys' School to commemorate this journey and be a part of these celebrations.
With warm regards,
Gunmeet Bindra
(Principal)
