The International Award for Young People, globally known as the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, is the world’s leading youth development programme. It began in 1956 under the initiative of HRH the Duke of Edinburgh, Lord Hunt and Dr Kurt Hahn for young people aged between 14 and 24 years. A workshop on the IAYP was organized on 31st of January 2015 for the staff, at Welham Boys’ School. Mr. Kapil Bhalla, the National Director explained the philosophy of the award as experiential learning, through individual challenges. The aim is to engage, equip, empower and reward young adults. Mr. Bivujit Mukhoty, the Programme Manager spoke about the three levels of the award which are Bronze, Silver and Gold and elaborated on the components of Service, Skills, Physical Recreation, Adventurous Journey and Residential Project as requirements for the Gold level. Only six schools in India including Welham Boys’, have the facility to register and maintain the students’ ORB (Online Record Book). The ORB details were demonstrated by the Communication Manager, Mr. Priyank Kumar Gupta. The workshop was engaging and educative. Mr. Lakshman S. Bhandari, the award leader at Welham Boys’, concluded it with the surety, that accurate assistance from teachers would enhance students’ interest, and more students would engage in the quest of the award in its true spirit.
