Talk by Ratna Vira

The bestselling author of ‘Daughter By Court Order’, Ratna Vira, touched many hearts and inspired the young boys at Welham Boys’ School.

The novel, ‘Daughter By Court Order’ was launched in May 2014 and stood on the Top 10 Bestseller’s list for months. The book features in leading publications, including The New York Times.

Prime Minister NarendraModi sent a strong supportive message for the book, saying that “whenever there is any instance of harassment against women, we are overcome by a sense of despair. It is nothing but a national shame.”

Ms Gunmeet Bindra,Principal,WBS organised this talk to sensitize students on gender discrimination so that they grow up to be well rounded individuals who will take the initiative to change the mindset and attitude of men towards the dignity of women.

Ratna Vira’s book provides young boys and girls the motivation to succeed, to respect others and to understand that even if you are caught in a terrible situation - be it your school grades, your marriage, your job, or even your health – you must actively work towards changing your circumstances. She inspired her listeners to hope that miraculous breakthroughs occur in life and that one can get thrown out of the tunnel of defeat and despair just as suddenly as one had been first sucked in.

Ratna Vira holds a Master’s Degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science, as well as Masters in English Literature from St Stephen’s College, University of Delhi. She also holds an MBA. She balances her corporate career with her passion for writing and her love for art. Currently she is living in Gurgaon and has just finished writing her second novel.
