MathCrunch-2012

Welham Boys' School hosted an Inter School Quiz in Mathematics under the banner 'MathCrunch- 2012' on the 27th April 2012. Nine schools participated in the event. Each school had four participants one each from Class IX to Class XII. The quiz was conducted in two phases. In the phase I the four participants from each school were split two teams, Team – I and Team -II. Team-I comprised of students of class IX and X and Team-II comprised of students from class XI and XII. Each team attempted a set of 25 objective questions. The schools represented by the 4 highest scoring teams qualified the phase – I. The teams were Rashtriya Indian Military College, Doon International School, Convent of Jesus & Mary and Welham Boys' School.

 

Phase II of MathCrunch-2012 had an activity round and a quiz round. The activity round expected the participants to build a bridge using only plastic straw-pipes and scotch tape. The bridge with the highest load bearing capacity was made by students from Doon International School. Then the four teams with four participants each competed with each other in the final quiz. The final quiz had five rounds namely, 'Number Bytes', 'Think Thru', 'Buzz Thru', 'Math in Talkies' and 'Gone in 60 Seconds'. Welham Boys' School emerged the winner with the maximum aggregate from all rounds in Phase II.

 

Overall the event was a big success with students taking back the shared feeling that 'Mathematics is FUN'.
