Pandit Sopori Santoor Recital
Pandit Bhajan Sopori, a renowned Santoor Maestro enthralled the students with a Scintillating Santoor Recital. Panditji hails from the Kashmir valley where his family played the Santoor for six generations. He is the only classical musician who has composed more than 6000 songs in the different languages of the country. He learnt Western classical music from the Washington University, where he also later taught. He is the recipient of many prestigious awards such as The Sangeet Natak Academy award in 1993 and the Padma Shri in 2004 to name a few. He runs a music Academy called the Sopori Academy for Music and Performing Arts. He is involved in promoting music with Jail inmates, using music to heal the prisoners and to create an emotional bond between them and the society.
Panditji, interacted with the students during the course of his performance and enlightened them on the various taals and ragas. The students sang along with him and thoroughly enjoyed the performance. Panditji along with his accompanists mesmerized the audience making the theatron come alive to the sound of the magical Santoor!
