NewsThe 30th Oliphant Memorial Inter-School Virtual Debates 2020 11-09-2020

The 30th edition of the Oliphant Memorial Inter-School English Debates was held on 11 and 12 September, 2020 as an online contest with sixteen teams vying for the Winner’s Trophy. After three Preliminary Rounds and two Semi-Final Rounds over two days, the Final Round was contested by four teams, namely, Vivek High School, St. Joseph’s Academy, St. George’s School (team 1) and Vasant Valley School. The topic for the Final Debate was ‘This House (Rational People of the World) prefer: Government: Stand Your Ground Opposition: Duty to Retreat’ and St. George’s School bagged the trophy. The Best Speaker from the Government Whip was Aadi Jain from St. George’s School. The school that placed second was Vivek High School.

Welham Boys’ School started life as Welham Preparatory School way back in 1937, when Ms. Oliphant invested her humble capital and started the School in a rented building, which she called White House. Later, she rented another building Bethany that today is our dining hall.
