Welham Boys’ School celebrated its 86th Founder’s Day, a three-day gala affair. Like every year, the celebrations commenced with a Book Fair organised by Scholastic India. Attendees immersed themselves in a world of captivating stories and insightful knowledge. From fiction to nonfiction, the fair celebrated the written word, fostering a love for reading among enthusiasts. The Parent- Teacher meeting allowed for discussions regarding a student's holistic development by sharing insights, addressing concerns, and setting goals. The zealous event of Day one, the Annual Athletics Meet featured an array of sports, from exhilarating sprints and high jumps to thrilling relay races, from boisterous marching and aerobics to calming yoga display. Students demonstrated their skills in various disciplines, creating a dynamic and energetic atmosphere. Ms.Reeti Sahai, the first lady from Uttarakhand to finish six major world marathons (a six-star finisher) graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and talked about the importance of fitness, discipline and a never-ending pursuit of excellence in life. Continuing the legacy, Krishna House lifted the Marching trophy yet another time. The day concluded with the colorful and animated Junior School Production- an original work titled ‘Oliver, The Blue Elephant’ which focused on one’s inner strength and the ability to stay strong in times of adversity.
The second day witnessed the annual CCA as well as the Art Exhibitions. From motor mechanics to candle making, from bakery to aeromodelling, from quizzing to debating, from sign language to paper recycling, from carpentry to audio engine, the parents admired the range of talents showcased by the students. The exhibition also reflected the school’s continued commitment to offering diverse opportunities to the boys. This year, the Founder’s Assembly, one of the most solemn occasions in school, was graced with the presence of Mr. Aftab Seth, a career diplomat and former ambassador of India to Greece, Vietnam, and Japan. Mr. Seth is also a professor and an author of great depth. Mr. Seth particularly highlighted the role of education in liberating the mind and inculcating harmony in society. The Chairman, Board of Governors, WBS, Mr. Darshan Singh congratulated the Principal, Ms. Sangeeta Kain, and the entire Welham staff for their steadfast commitment to the betterment of students and providing a safe and stimulating environment for their intellectual and personal growth. The Assembly also saw the screening of the Welham Newz, a chronicle of life at Welham over the years. Keshav Rungta shared his thoughts and experiences as the Creative Director of Welham Newz for the year 2023-2024. The Principal presented the Annual Report in which she outlined the impressive achievements of the school. Arham Jain, the Academic Captain as well as the Gentleman of the Year 2023, was awarded the Dr. Anil Wilson award for securing 97% in the CBSE Grade XII examination. Eshaan Agarwal was conferred with the Principal’s Award for scoring 99.2% in the CBSE Grade X examination. The School Captain, Trayambak Raj Prasanna Kartik Pathak, delivered his Founder’s speech highlighting the memorable moments of his batch and reflecting on his growth through all these years at Welham. The Ensemble- the melodious collaboration between Hindustani and Western instruments such as tabla, sitar, guitar, violin, saxophone, drums, etc. filled the air with rhythm and soulful notes. The vocalists sang with tender and nuanced emotions and struck a chord with the audience. The day concluded with the Middle and Senior School Production, Me to We: a dance of change. The play highlighted the day to day life of a boarding school student and how the path to glory and success lies in strengthening the collective spirit and balancing the academic and co-curricular pursuits.
The Carnival, on day three, unfolded in a riot of colors and festivities, with lively and exuberant Welham Band performances. The stalls offered delectable treats and fun filled games such as Darts, Fortune Wheel, Pin the Donkey among many others. The Photobooth and Welham Jail remained the highlights of the event. The vibrant atmosphere, filled with laughter and joy, made the carnival a memorable celebration of community spirit and entertainment for all ages.
