NewsWELMUN 2023 and Kamera Obscura 2023 03-08-2023
WELMUN 23 and Kamera Obscura 23, hosted by Welham Boys' School from August 3-5, 2023, turned out to be a magnificent celebration of intellect, creativity, and camaraderie. Nearly 300 delegates actively took part in the events, setting an incredibly inspiring tone from the outset.
The inauguration on Day 1 commenced with an Opening Ceremony graced by the esteemed presence of Ms. Radhika Jha, IAS, Uttarakhand, as Chief Guest. Her motivating address captured the audience's attention. The discussions within the WELMUN committee sessions stimulated thoughtful dialogues across various committees, all orbiting around the theme "Transcending Conflict to Transforming Conundrum." The delegates, showing immense enthusiasm, exchanged a wide spectrum of ideas.
In parallel, Kamera Obscura, an event highlighting photography and cinematography, unfolded with themes like "Magic of Monochrome" for the photography competition and "The Storm Within" for the filmmaking competition. Students displayed their artistic flair by capturing captivating scenes around the Welham campus.
Day 2 marked the culmination of submissions for Kamera Obscura, unveiling striking photographs and films that aptly demonstrated the creative essence behind the lens. Simultaneously, WELMUN's sessions maintained their focus on fostering intellectual growth and impassioned debates among the participants.
As the sun set, the enchanting performance by the Welham band graced the stage, setting the tone for an unforgettable evening. The delegate dance and dinner further solidified the connections among participants, resulting in a symphony of laughter and enjoyment.
Day 3 witnessed the conclusion of Kamera Obscura's exhibition, revealing winners in both photography and filmmaking categories. In photography, Rishi Kukreti from Doon International School secured the top position, followed by Chiraag Bhargava from Welham Boys' School and Vedant Chawla from DSB International Public School in second and third positions, respectively. In filmmaking, Jigisha Sachdeva from Hopetown Girls' School claimed the first position, while Vani Chachra and Bhavya Sangal from Welham Girls' School achieved the second position. The third position was secured by Nipurn Bhoopal and Aryan Ranjan from The Doon School.
The committee sessions of WELMUN continued, marked by delegates' active engagement in insightful discussions on global matters, nurturing valuable skills in diplomacy and teamwork. Ultimately, The Doon School was awarded the Best Delegation Trophy for WELMUN. The event concluded with a dignified closing ceremony graced by the presence of Ms. Sangeeta Kain, Principal of Welham Boys’ School, who shared her inspirational words with the audience.
The confluence of WELMUN 2023 and Kamera Obscura 2023 undeniably emerged as a resounding success, celebrating the brilliance and talents of these young participants and promising a lasting impact on their journey.
